I used to be the one sitting through the vendor demos.
Now I sit on the other side of the table, helping retailers ask the questions vendors hope don't come up.
From in-house lead to independent advisor
Before founding Solberg Retail Consulting, I spent close to a decade as the in-house e-commerce lead for a mid-size Nordic retailer — the person accountable when a pricing tool mis-quoted margin, when the ERP couldn't handle a Black Week spike, or when a CRM migration ran a year over schedule.
Every one of those problems traced back to the same root cause: a purchasing decision made under pressure, based on a slide deck rather than a real test against real data. I started this practice to be the person retailers bring in before that decision is made, not after.
Today, Solberg Retail Consulting works exclusively on the buyer's side — no reseller agreements, no referral fees from software vendors. If a tool is wrong for your business, I'll say so even if it's the market leader.
How I got here
Joined a mid-size Nordic retailer as e-commerce coordinator
Started on the operational side — order management, catalogue data, and the first wave of platform migrations.
Promoted to in-house e-commerce lead
Owned the full commercial platform stack: pricing, CRM, inventory, and the vendor relationships behind each one.
Led a full ERP and pricing platform migration
Ran the RFP, pilot, and negotiation process end to end — and started getting asked by peers at other retailers to do the same for them.
Founded Solberg Retail Consulting
Left the in-house role to advise retailers full-time on software selection, starting with two long-standing industry contacts.
40+ engagements across the Nordics
Now working with retailers across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark on pricing, ERP, CRM, loyalty, and logistics selection.
Principles that don't change per client
Vendor-neutral, always
No referral fees, no reseller margins, no preferred-partner lists. Recommendations are based on fit, not on who pays me.
Test with your data, not theirs
Demos run on curated sample data. Pilots run on your actual SKUs, your actual order volume, your actual edge cases.
Write it down
Every engagement produces a requirements matrix, a scorecard, and a decision record — so the reasoning survives staff turnover.
Stay through go-live
A signed contract isn't the finish line. I stay engaged through onboarding to make sure the tool that won the pilot is the one that ships.
Have a selection decision coming up?
Let's talk through it before an RFP goes out.
